Calories & Weight Watcher Points for Fruits

Posted on October 4, 2008. Filed under: Food Fun, Getting Fit | Tags: , , , , , , |

Fruits are packed with vitamins, generally contain fiber which is necessary for proper digestion, usually contain a lot of water (also necessary for proper digestion among other things,) are usually low in calories and fat and contain natural sugars for energy.

If you’re “Battling the Bulge” with me this October, here’s a little list of calories and weight watcher points for a variety of fruits. Keep this handy for easy tracking!

Fruit Calories & Points

Bing cherries – 1 cup = 88 calories w/ 2.7 grams of fiber = 1 point

peach – 1 medium = 42 calories w/ 2 grams of fiber = 1 point

grapes – 1 cup = 114 calories w/ 1 gram of fiber = 2 points

kiwi – 1 medium = 46 calories w/ 2 grams of fiber = 1 point

apples – 1 medium = 88 calories w/ 3 grams of fiber = 1 point

pears – 1 medium = 98 calories w/ 4 grams of fiber = 1 point

cantaloupe – 1 cup diced = 56 calories w/ 1 gram of fiber = 1 point

bananas – 1 lrg. = 125 calories w/ 3 grams of fiber = 2 points

blackberries – 1 cup = 75 calories w/ 7 grams of fiber = 1 point

grapefruit – 1 lrg. = 53 calories w/1 gram of fiber = 1 point

strawberries – 1 cup halved = 45 calories w/ 3.5 grams of fiber = 1 point

I found this list online and I’m pretty sure it’s correct, please let me know if you find discrepancies.

Also, check out this list from The Fruit Pages which has the nutritional info for even more fruits.

I was hoping to see brownies on the list but to no avail! :D Thanks for doing some of the dirty work and sharing!

weight watchers is the only program I’ve ever personally seen someone I know do – and succeed at it. My manager-of-4-years at my former job (whom was like a mother-figure and great mentor to me) was huge when I first started working there. Something like over 250 lbs or so – and for a tiny boned woman who was 5′5, that’s a LOT of baggage. She started weight watchers at the end of 2005, and all of us on staff watched her literally melt away within 9 months. It was amazing…she didn’t exercise either..she detested exercise…she just faithfully (and hard core-ly) stuck to the point system and eating right. At the time of our layoff, she weighed 128 lbs (2 lbs less than I was – and I had always been the little’est member on staff). I admire her greatly for that, and have recommended weight watchers to everyone since then because of witnessing her transformation first hand.

ROFL!

“recommended weight watchers to everyone”

my bad….I should have said I “recommended weight watchers to everyone WHO IS LOOKING FOR A GREAT DIET PLAN”….

hahaha..i dont just go around telling anyone and everyone who’ll listen that they should up and shed their bulge…lol

Be careful with those bananas! WW has a food scale out now, preprogrammed with foods to tell you the points. At one of our recent meetings our leader weighed FIVE different bananas…. all of which we said we would count as 2 points. And of them, only ONE counted at 2 pts. the other four were 3 pts each. The scale is around $40 I think but it sure was an eye opener for us. Bananas are very high in sugar and lower in fiber, so they come out at higher points. :)

We bought a few red pears at Brookshire’s this last week and the boys loved them. They weren’t very expensive so you may want to check them out.
