Tackle It Tuesday - Twitter

Okay, TWITTER does NOT count as housework. Or anything even remotely close to it, I KNOW.

Nonetheless, my task for today was to sign up for Twitter.

Yes. I KNOW. It’s Twitter.

I had said I wasn’t going to sign up for Twitter. It was goofy, silly, trivial. I mean, do y’all really need to know I’m mopping the kitchen floor? (Besides, I’m not.. not right now, though it seriously needs to be done. Perhaps I should do that instead.)

However… while chatting with some new bloggy peoples at Robin’s party, it was pointed out how beneficial Twitter can be for networking with other bloggy peoples.

I hadn’t thought of it that way.

They have a point. I suppose.

So Now I Am On Twitter. There’s a big collective bloggy rolling of the eyes, I’m sure. I mean, I’M trying not to roll my eyes. I’m sure after a while I’ll get into it and enjoy it. I’m sure. Yeah.

So if you already Twitter you can follow me in my novice attempt at Twittering and networking. I promise not to post anything about me clipping my toenails or bathing my cats. Deal?

If you don’t have a clue what in the world Twitter even is.. the Twitter FAQ page can help explain that a little bit better.

SO.

Do YOU Twitter? Why? Or Why Not?

Tackle It Tuesday is hosted by 5 Minutes For Mom! (Who by the way, is ALSO on Twitter.)

See Something Different?

A change was much needed! In fact, it’s not just here. Check out Imperishable Beauty and Faith Family Home School, too! It’s a whole bloggy makeover!

I had kinda been in a little blogging funk, but I feel much better now. First I read several posts including BooMama’s post about finding your bloggy identity, which was very inspiring.

Mainly, I have really needed this break!

SO. Here’s to a fresh start! Here’s to happy blog templates!

Where I’m Not Poking Fun at Them, Because That Would Be Rude - But it IS a Little Humorous.

A little bit of search engine humor to brighten your day.

Like most blogs I get some pretty strange things pop up in my statistics from time to time. WordPress keeps record of the keywords that led people to my blog, which for the most part can be a helpful tool. For the remainder of the time it provides some good giggles and raised eyebrows.

Not being one to act stingy, I thought I’d share the giggles and raised eyebrows. Pretend we’re sitting on my couch with a bowl of popcorn watching some outtakes or sports follies or something. Bear in mind that I found all these in my stats for the past FOUR days.. it’s not like I had to go digging for them.

Oh, I also thought I’d link the weirder ones to my best guess at what included my blog in those results. Don’t want y’all getting strange ideas about me, now!

  • “a good home for a bat” - Well, generally I’d say a cave. Unless you’re talking about my mom (Gran’Bat) in which case, I’d say a house. She’s not too crazy about caves for living.
  • “i feel like i am ingesting some kind of” - Of? Of? I’m sorry, I can’t help you if I don’t know what it is. But then, I’m not a doctor anyhow.
  • “quincy, il flooding photos june 2008″ - I honestly have no idea why this has anything to do with anything on my blog.
  • “why did God?” - Why did God what? I don’t know, but I’d usually say because he’s God and he wanted to. Next?
  • “im a little strange this is how i feel” - Sometimes I feel that way, too.
  • “orange dessert clipart” - I don’t have any - Do you want me to make one?
  • “drink poison” - Don’t! Please don’t! Find a friend, call your mom, please do something else.
  • “i want to make l*ve to my sister-in-law” - Please, please, please.. don’t do that, either. There are so many reasons. (Yes, I added the asterisk, don’t want more people finding my blog for that.)
  • “hiding in closet” - It’s okay, it’s safe to come out now.
  • “what does shoot the breeze mean?” - Oh, dear. Don’t worry, I’ll help you with this one. To “shoot the breeze” means to sit down and chit chat, catch up, pass the time, maybe gossip a little though it’s not recommended, It often takes place outside, on a porch or in a lawn chair. Sometimes it involves beverages such as lemonade or iced tea. There you go, sweetheart, now you know.
  • “you can’t believe everything you read” - Amen! Unless you’re talking about the Bible, in which case I believe you can. And should.
  • “animals doing math problems” - Really?? Mine aren’t that smart.

Do you ever wonder about some of these? Just what exactly are they searching for? But then, it makes me wonder.. I wonder if I’ve ever stumbled upon someone else’s blog by searching for something that seemed a little strange out of context. Good thing it doesn’t take names, huh? :)

A Brief Bloggy Hiatus

I’ve got a lot on my plate the next few days. Ballet pictures were today, the rehearsal is tomorrow, the recital is Saturday. I promise it took us two and a half hours to get ready for pictures today. Two and a half hours consisting only of bathing, fixing hair, soft make-up-ing, and getting dressed. Nevermind that the house could have used a little of that, too. We’ll do the same thing tomorrow and the next day. Since I wasn’t able to type out a few posts ahead of time, well, you’ll just have to take a rain check. I have 8 drafts in my draft folder. Yes, eight. After this weekend, I should have at least a couple more, too. ;) Until then…

As Promised, Some Graphs

First of all, thanks for all the info. One of the drawbacks to homeschooling is that you can’t poll the class and gain a whole lot of information. However, you CAN poll your momma’s blog. ;)

Now the results.

“Which do you prefer, cake or pie?” What do you think? I confess I thought it would be pie. And for a while it looked like it would be. But in the end, it seems most of you prefer cake. Yes, that’s right. Princess tallied 12 votes for pie and 15 votes for cake. It was close, though! Very, very close. Personally I’m a pie person. I like chocolate, cherry, pecan, apple.. guess I should start singing the pie song from that movie…

We created graphs for the other two. I had her tell me how many rows and columns we needed but I helped draw the grid. Then she labeled and colored it in. Except on the 2nd one, when she asked me to color while she labeled. It looked like fun so I agreed to help. ;)

As it turns out, the majority of my voting readers (that would be 8 of you) prefer the color blue - oh yes, blue is indeed the winner. Now, blue is okay and all, but in my opinion the best color is pink, which came in second with 7 votes, with red (my other favorite color) coming in 3rd with 6. So really, if you add the votes for pink and red together then most of my voting readers prefer the same colors I do. ;)

As for the favorite insects, I know that made a few of you squeamish but you’ll be happy to know that the winners are at least cute. Yes, winners. We had a tie for first with 6 votes each for Ladybug and Butterfly. The Rolly Polie and Praying Mantis tied for next place with 3 votes each.

Thanks again, it was a lot of fun! We’ll be sure to keep y’all in mind for future projects. Class dismissed. ;)

Wanna Help With A Project?

We’re reviewing graphing and to make it more fun - YOU get to provide the input for the graph. Come on, don’t disappoint a second grader! We won’t have much to graph if you don’t answer.

Graph #1: What’s Your Favorite Bug?

You can pick any insect, no limitations, just tell us what it is and we’ll graph it in a bar graph.

Graph #2: Cake or Pie?

Do you prefer cake or pie the most? For the purpose of this exercise, you have to pick one or the other. You can’t say “both” - that’s cheating. We’ll use tally marks to see which one “wins.”

Graph #3: What’s your favorite color?

Pick a color, any color, and let us know!

Thanks y’all!!!

*Note: You’ll have through Monday the 19th to answer, we’ll be making our graphs on Tuesday the 20th (We don’t do school work on Mondays.)

WFMW - My Sigg Bottles

During the last Bloggy Giveaways I won a gift certificate to mysigg.com from Lisa at Domestic Accident. I was so very excited! I ordered a couple of kids bottles for Little Prince and also an insulated mug for myself.

Little Prince really likes his “big boy cups.” We purged all his sippy cups except for two insulated ones. These have sports-bottle tops that twist open and closed. They aren’t leak proof while he’s drinking out of them (they only drip a little,) but they’re completely leak proof while they’re closed which is a good thing. Even though his Sigg bottles aren’t insulated, just the fact that they’re made out of aluminum helps to keep his cold drinks cold a little longer than a regular cup.

For myself, I bought the Pastel Pink Metro Thermos. I love coffee, so I was really excited to get a thermos promising to keep it hot for six hours. I’m thinking about Sunday mornings when I have to get up earlier than usual with one eye open. Oh yeah. My only complaint is that it’s not big enough. ;) It’s so cute, though. Easy to hold. And it really works, too. Hot coffee, for hours. Yummmmm.

Be Honest, You Know You’ve Wanted To.

I’m not saying it would be right (because it wouldn’t) but haven’t you ever really wanted to do this?

I’m just sayin’.
