Join the Fight Against Breast Cancer

My good friend Tina, from when I used to live up in the big DFW metroplex area, has taken on a 3-Day Challenge for the cure.

From her site:

God has blessed me with many wonderful women in my life, including 2 mothers, 8 sisters, 4 aunts, 8 nieces, 1 BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER and countless friends. I lost one mother to this terrible disease, and if walking 60 miles can help prevent losing anyone else, it is a very small price to pay.

Without a cure, one in five women diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. will die from it, and that doesn’t include the rest of the world. Our slogan this year is Everyone Deserves A Lifetime. A lifetime of love, laughther and happiness is my goal, but I will settle for one free of breast cancer. I hope you will be able to help me in meeting the challenge to rid the world of this devastating disease.

Tiny is relying on her friends, family, and complete strangers to rally together in support of her challenge in order for her to reach her goal of $5,000. At this time, she’s raised about ten percent of her goal.

We all know someone who has been affected by cancer.

Any one of us could be affected by cancer at some point in our lifetime.

From the 3-Day Website:

Can you imagine a world without breast cancer? It’s hard, given how pervasive the disease is. But go ahead, let yourself envision that world. Because it’s not a fantasy. It’s a reality within our grasp. Each step you take on the Breast Cancer 3-Day brings us closer to ending the disease forever.

Eighty-five percent of the net proceeds of this event go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant.

The remaining fifteen percent of net funds goes to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, which provides ongoing support to breast cancer initiatives, so that strides made today can continue to propel us toward our goal.

Everyone has been touched in some way by breast cancer. And recoiled from the touch. No family should lose a mother prematurely. Or a dear friend, sister, wife, daughter, co-worker. No one of us, just diagnosed, should have to look at the mirror in the morning and say: Will I survive? Everyone deserves a lifetime: We feel it deep in our bones.

Allow yourself to imagine a world without breast cancer.

Please Pray for My Friend

One of my friends is hurting inside. Today she must make a journey that I cannot fathom; today the doctors will induce labor for her baby who is no longer alive.

I have never been in her shoes and I don’t know how it feels, but I do know that our God knows every ache, pain, doubt, sorrow, regret, worry, loss, and fear.  He sees every tear. We don’t worship a god that remains aloof and unavailable. We worship an all-knowing, ever-present, all-powerful and intimate God, and He is able to meet our every need.

Please pray for my friend today if God places her on your heart. Prayer is a powerful thing, and I know that she appreciates every one.

Birthday Wishes

I probably should have done this last night to give it enough time to work, but here goes anyway!

Today is my best friend’s birthday! (I’m not telling her age.) ;) And since her birthday always turns out to be a bad day, and since it seems that nobody ever remembers her birthday until after it has passed (it’s true, even I have forgotten to call in the past - but not this year!) I thought I’d try to set up something a little special for her.

If you don’t mind dropping by and telling Moma Nut “Happy Birthday” today, it sure would put a smile on her face. It’s true, she’s only got a couple of entries up, and she certainly doesn’t have one for today, so just go ahead and leave comments on the last post or send her an email. I am!

Thanks, y’all!!

Yes, God Does Answer Prayer

Earlier this evening, whilst working on my previous post, I was chatting on the phone with my best friend — who is pregnant, and she is due in April, and she lives somewhere where it is freezing (literally) and I think there’s even still snow on the ground.

While I was working, she was making a quick trip the grocery store while the kids (15 and under) were at home and her husband was at work (as a chef, he generally works till 2 am on Friday nights.) When she returned to her car, lo and behold she had somehow managed to get out of her car without her keys. I could literally HEAR the color drain from her face, felt her fighting off the panic as she spotted her keys in the console and began to check every. single. door. I said a prayer (Please God, work this out somehow) and then we started brain-storming. She did NOT want to call her husband at work. She considered walking to the house less than a half a mile away, but the only other key is with her husband - there’s no spare at the house. She was ALMOST ready to go ahead and walk home and just come back for the car after he got off work, but she just couldn’t commit to it when she said, “I’ll call you back…I’m getting a second call.”

Can you SEE where this is going?? Read the rest of this entry »

Baby Name Poll

Picking a baby name can be a tough decision indeed. Oh, not for me. I’m not expecting a baby anytime soon. :) But my best friend is expecting one in April and they can’t decide on a name. That’s where you come in. Any suggestions?

Let me get you some background info. Their last name starts with an M. They already have three kids whose initials are L.X., R.V., and G.A. They are a blended Mexican-American family, and their children’s names reflect thier blended heritages. They don’t have to be strictly hispanic names, but they do have to sound okay when said with a spanish accent. For example, Jack pronounced with a thick spanish accent can sound like Yak. Enough said. :) They want to try not to repeat any of the initials already used by the other children. And my friend doesn’t like things that are too common, like Jane.

They don’t really have a girl name picked out and the three choices they have picked out so far for a boy name are Isaiah, Elijah, and Malachi - though she’s really not crazy about them. Oh, one more thing, the boy name needs to work with Fernando as a first or middle name. Is it complicated enough yet? =)

Okay, so get your thinkers going and throw a name into the hat! I know there are lurkers, feel free to step into the light and throw a suggestion in as well - the more the merrier.

Let the baby naming begin!

Last Weekend of The Promise

PROMISE1For those of you who don’t know, tonight and tomorrow night are the last two performances of The Promise for this season. I have a certain number of free tickets left to give away and an unlimited number of 5$ off coupons. They give each of us a set number, and I have 5 family members in the show! That’s a lot of tickets to give away.

For anybody that wants to go, it would be as easy as me leaving them at the will call window with your name on them. (But then, you’d better show up!)

Also, tomorrow is Veteran’s Day and The Promise is having a special promotion to celebrate. There will be an extra long patriotic pre-show performance by Allen Asbury (including his song “Somebody’s Praying Me Through” where any veterans or current military will be able to get in free, and their guests and family members get in for 5$ off. Click here for more information. (As always, clergy and one guest can get in free — click here for more information on that.)

SO:5-closer-than-a-heartbeat-4.jpg

  1. I have a total of 9 tickets left to give away. (I’ll update this as they are “reserved.”)
  2. I want to give up to two free tickets to each group, in addition to as many coupons as necessary to help as many people as possible be able to afford getting in to see the show.
  3. I do have an unlimited number of coupons.
  4. To “reserve” your tickets with me just contact me and let me know.
  5. I’m giving these away first come, first serve.
  6. I will leave them at the “will call” window with your name on them.
  7. PLEASE do forward this to anyone you think might benefit from using these free coupons!!

Thank you all so much for ‘listening’ to this. I really just want to get this out to people who would like to see the show, but haven’t because of the cost. If this could help somebody get in, then I am HAPPY to do it.
